Pedestrian Accident on Sonoma Highway Leaves Two 12-Year-Old Girls Injured

SONOMA, CA (February 23, 2021) – Two 12-year-old girls sustained injuries after a pedestrian accident on Sonoma Highway Sunday last week.

The accident happened around 1:40 p.m., February 14 at Verano Avenue.

According to the CHP, a female driver of a 2016 Lexus NX200T turned north onto Highway 12 and attempted a left turn from Verano Avenue. For unknown reasons, she did not yield to the pedestrians in the crosswalk and struck both of them.

CHP officials said the girls were crossing Sonoma Highway in the crosswalk between Palms Cafe and McDonald’s.

As a result of the crash, one of the juveniles sustained major injuries, and the other had minor injuries. Paramedics transported both to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.

The driver of the Lexux, 40-year-old Lisbet Flores of Sonoma, stayed at the scene and cooperated with authorities.

There were no citations, and drugs or alcohol did not appear to be a factor. However, the accident is under investigation.

When approaching an intersection or a marked crosswalk, reduce your speed. Look out for pedestrians crossing. Avoid distractions and always practice defensive driving.
