Multi-Vehicle Accident at Phelan Road and Johnson Road Sends 3 People to Hospital
PHELAN, CA (December 1, 2021) – Two people were airlifted following a multi-vehicle accident at Phelan Road and Johnson Road on Monday afternoon.
The accident happened around 2:34 p.m. on November 29. According to the California Highway Patrol, a black Nissan Altima ran a red light and broadsided a white Ford F-250 pickup truck. It then flew into a silver Jeep Renegade that was waiting to make a right-hand turn onto Phelan Road.
The Nissan overturned and landed on its roof. The driver, a man in his late 20s, was found unconscious inside the car. Firefighters took approximately 25 minutes to extricate him from the overturned car.
A woman in the Jeep suffered critical injuries, while a man from the Ford sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Officers requested two helicopters to airlift two of the patients to trauma hospitals.
At this time, the cause of the crash and factors involved remain under investigation.
When approaching a red light or a stop sign, make sure to slow down and come to a complete stop just before it. Scan for any oncoming vehicles, and keep an eye out for possible road hazards. Also, practice defensive driving when entering intersections.
