UPDATE: Tu Lam Hit by Car in Food 4 Less Parking Lot, Police Search for Hit-and-Run Driver [San Diego, CA]

Father Tu Lam Hospitalized in San Diego Hit-and-Run at Food 4 Less Parking Lot

 
SAN DIEGO, CA (March 9, 2021) — A hit-and-run car stuck a man as he buckled his child into a car seat in a Food 4 Less parking lot on University Avenue near 58th Street.
 
According police, around 3:00 p.m. 47-year-old Tu Hoang Lam helped his 6-year-old son buckle into the back seat of his silver 2017 Toyota Corolla when a silver Saturn Vue struck Lam.
 
Lam was pinned against his car and suffered a pelvic fracture and other serious injuries.
 
After that, he was transported to Scripps Mercy in San Diego for treatment and in serious condition. However, the child was not hurt.
 
Lam’s son witnessed the SUV hit his father. However, he opened his father’s phone for a witness who came running over. After that, he helped them locate a family member’s phone number.
 
Investigators said the driver of the compact SUV stayed in that spot for about 10 seconds, with the Saturn pinned against the Toyota. However, as pedestrians approached to help, the driver backed up and drove away, exiting onto Redwood Street.
 
Police reported that the Saturn sustained damage to the driver’s-side front turn signal and bumper. However, the hit-and-run driver fled west out of the parking lot. A description of the driver is not yet available. As a result, locating the vehicle has been difficult for authorities.
 
A GoFundMe was set up for Lam and his family by his younger brother Ben Xavier.
