Community Activist and Foster Mom Dies on Christmas Eve after Struck by Hit-and-Run Car in South LA

 
SOUTH LOS ANGELES, CA (December 26, 2022)Trina Newman-Townsend was killed in a hit-and-run crash in South Los Angeles on Christmas Eve.
 
The fatal crash happened around 3:27 p.m. on December 24, at the intersection of Broadway and 88th Street. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, a gray SUV, possibly a Nissan, struck the victim and drove away without stopping.
 
Newman-Townsend suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. She was a 62-year-old Los Angeles resident, according to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office. She was a mother, grandmother and community activist who helped raise six foster children.
 
At this time, the hit-and-run suspect remains at large.
