Morning Head-On Accident on Santa Fe Drive in Merced County Kills 3 People

 
MERCED COUNTY, CA (August 8, 2022) – Three people were killed in a head-on accident at Santa Fe Drive and Franklin Road in Merced County on Sunday morning.
 
The fatal accident happened around 5:55 a.m. on August 7. According to the California Highway Patrol, a 34-year-old Merced man drove his Jeep westbound in eastbound lanes of Santa Fe Drive. The jeep then collided head-on with a Nissan Rogue, driven by a 38-year-old man from Turlock.
 
As a result of the crash, both drivers and a 34-year-old woman in the Jeep died at the scene.
 
Officers said the woman was in the back seat and was not wearing a seat belt.
 
It is unknown if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. Further investigation is underway.
