Head-On Accident on Highway 12 in San Joaquin County Kills 3 and Injures 3 Others

 
SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY, CA (May 17, 2022) – Three people died in a head-on accident on Highway 12 in San Joaquin County on Friday afternoon.
 
The accident happened around 2:19 p.m. on May 13, just east of Peatland Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, a Hyundai Elantra was traveling eastbound on the highway at 100 mph behind a Honda Pilot carrying three passengers. At the same time, a Toyota Camry was traveling westbound.
 
The Hyundai lost control and veered into the dirt shoulder of the highway, parallel to a ditch. It then swerved back into the eastbound lane and collided with the Honda. The force of the crash sent both cars into the westbound lane, in the path of the Toyota Camry, where another crash happened.
 
The Hyundai and Honda both overturned into a water-filled ditch while the Toyota remained disabled in the westbound lane.
 
As a result, the 28-year-old female driver of the Hyundai from Oakland died at the scene. The two passengers of the Honda, two men, ages 25 and 30, of Stockton, were also killed.
 
The other two drivers and another passenger of the Honda sustained injuries from the crash.
 
At this time, it is unknown whether alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash. Further investigation is underway.
