Moped Rider Terry Nilsen Jr. Dies after Struck by DUI Hit-and-Run Driver Chase Jacobsen in Chico
CHICO, CA (March 7, 2022) – Terry Nilsen Jr. died in a DUI hit-and-run accident in Chico, early Sunday morning.
The accident happened around 12:40 a.m. on March 6 in the 3500 block of the Esplanade, just north of Shasta Elementary School. According to the Chico Police Department, the 22-year-old victim from Chico was riding a moped when a pickup truck struck him.
The driver of the pickup, 24-year-old Chase Jacobsen of Chico, fled the scene with the moped still lodged under the truck.
Nilsen suffered major injuries from the crash. Paramedics rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he later died.
Police later arrested Jacobsen for DUI hit-and-run and vehicular manslaughter with no bail.
