Head-On Accident in Taft Kills Woman and Badly Injures 2 Men

 
TAFT, CA (March 30, 2022) – Teodosia Velasco Hernandez died in a head-on accident in Taft on Monday afternoon.
 
The accident happened shortly before 12:30 p.m. on March 28, on South Lake Road just north Gardner Field Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, Hernandez was driving a 2012 Acura east on South Lake Road when she entered the westbound lanes. She then collided head-on with a 2002 Chevrolet pickup.
 
As a result, Hernandez suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. She was a 32-year-old Taft resident.
 
The driver of the Chevrolet, 24-year-old Eminglio Hernandez of Maricopa, was seriously injured. A passenger in the Acura, 38-year-old Jose Abel Espinoza from Taft, also suffered major injuries.
 
Paramedics took both men to Kern Medical for treatment.
 
The CHP said Hernandez was not wearing her seatbelt, but the two men were.
 
It is unknown if alcohol and drugs played a role in the crash. An investigation is ongoing.
