Merced Woman Arrested for DUI Crash that Left 17-Year-Old Daughter Dead
MERCED COUNTY, CA (March 13, 2021) – Judith Nava was arrested after a DUI accident Thursday evening in Merced County that killed her teen daughter.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened just before 8:00 p.m., March 11, on West Sandy Mush Road near Combs Road.
Nava, a 40-year-old Merced resident, was driving a 1997 Toyota Camry at a high rate of speed on Sandy Mush Road. For unknown reasons, the car went off the right shoulder, lost control and rolled several times.
As a result, Nava’s 17-year-old daughter, who was in the front passenger seat, was ejected from the vehicle. She was not wearing her seat belt and died at the scene.
Nava and her 22-year-old son, who was in the backseat, were not injured. Both were wearing their seat belts.
CHP officials said alcohol appears to be a factor in the crash.
Police arrested Nava and booked her into the Merced County jail for driving without a license, manslaughter, and DUI. Nava’s bail is at $160,360.
