Father Steve Pirolli, 13-Year-Old Son Stephen Pirolli Jr. Die in Poway Car Accident
POWAY, CA (February 19, 2021) – A father and his teenage son died in a broadside car accident in the 15000 block of Espola Road on February 12.
Officials identified the victims as 54-year-old Steve Pirolli and 13-year-old Stephen Pirolli Jr.
The crash happened just after 7:00 p.m. Friday as the two were leaving a baseball practice at Poway High School. According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, they were turning off the north parking lot of the school out onto Espola Road when they were hit by a 19-year-old driving a Mercedes southbound.
The driver of the Toyota, Steve Pirolli, died at the scene of the crash.
His 14-year-old son, Stephen Pirolli Jr., who was a passenger in the car was taken to Rady Children’s Hospital. However, he was later pronounced dead, according to deputies.
Loved one set up a GoFundMe campaign to support the Pirolli family.
The 19-year-old driver of the Mercedes suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Crews transported him to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido.
Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be a factor in the crash.
