UPDATE: Spechelle Pope, Lesther Deleon Killed in Street Racing on 11th Street [Palmdale, CA]

Unrelated Vehicle Hit in Street Racing Accident, Driver Lesther Deleon and Passenger Spechelle Pope Killed

 
PALMDALE, CA (June 10, 2021) – 28-year-old Spechelle Pope and 37-year-old Lesther Deleon died in a street racing in Palmdale early Wednesday morning, June 9.
 
The fatal crash happened around 12:30 a.m. at 11th Street West and Rancho Vista Boulevard. According to the Los Angeles County Fire Department, a Dodge Challenger was speeding when it rear-ended a Toyota Corolla and knocked over a light pole in the process.
 
Nearby surveillance video captured the moment of impact as the Challenger collided with the Corolla. The Corolla spun out of control, slammed into the light pole and caught fire.
 
Its two occupants – driver Deleon and passenger Pope – died at the scene.
 
Deleon was a rideshare driver taking Pope to the grocery store. According to family, Pope is a young mother of four children. Deleon was a beloved soccer coach driving for Lyft at the time.
 
The Challenger was abandoned nearby. A witness told police that the driver of the Challenger jump into an Infiniti that sped away. Investigators believe the driver of the Challenger had been street racing.
 
At this time, the suspect remains at large. An investigation is ongoing.
