Police Arrest Hit-and-Run Driver after Fatally Striking Bicyclist near Avenue 44 and Avenue 313

 
VISALIA, CA (November 8, 2022) – Police arrested Shay Dejonge for hit-and-run after she fatally struck a bicyclist in Visalia Saturday afternoon on November 5.
 
The fatal crash happened around 1:00 p.m. near Avenue 144 south of Avenue 313. According to the California Highway Patrol, the 31-year-old suspect was driving a 2012 Mazda when she hit a 25-year-old man riding a bicycle.
 
After hitting the bicyclist, Dejonge fled southbound on Avenue 144 towards Visalia.
 
First responders rushed the man to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
 
Witnesses said they saw a female driver with blonde hair, matching the description of Dejonge, who owns the Mazda.
 
After tracking down the car, officers knocked on the door to the residence they believed Dejonge was in. That was when the suspect fled the residence on foot. The Mazda was then impounded for evidence.
 
An investigation into this fatality is ongoing.
