Coroner Identifies Man Killed in Santa Barbara Crash on Highway 154

SANTA BARBARA, CA (March 31, 2021) – The coroner’s office released the name of a man who died in a two-vehicle accident near Lake Cachuma last week.

He was 39-year-old Sean Daye McDonough of Ventura, according to the Santa Barbara County Coroner’s Bureau.

The crash happened around 3:50 a.m. on Thursday, March 25, along Highway 154 near the San Marcos Pass. According to California Highway Patrol, McDonough was driving a 2001 Toyota on the westbound side of the highway, while a 34-year-old Santa Barbara man was driving eastbound in a 2017 Dodge vehicle.

For unknown reasons, McDonough turned his vehicle over the double yellow lines and crashed his car into the Dodge. The driver of the Dodge was transported to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital with major injuries, while McDonough was pronounced deceased at the scene.

It is unclear if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. An investigation is underway. Anyone with additional information can call the Buellton-area CHP office at 805-688-5551.

We extend our deepest condolences to the grieving family and friends of Sean McDonough.
