17-Year-Old High School Student Sarahi Ramirez Dies after Struck by DUI Driver Michael Mendoza in Fresno

 
FRESNO, CA (March 22, 2022) – Sarahi Ramirez was killed in a DUI accident in southwest Fresno on Friday evening.
 
The fatal accident happened around 8:40 p.m. on March 18, in the area of Jensen Avenue near Marks Avenue.
 
According to the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office, 25-year-old Michael Mendoza was driving a Chevrolet Tahoe when his SUV drove through a stop sign and slammed into the driver’s side of a second SUV, driven by Ramirez.
 
Ramirez was wearing a seat belt, but suffered injuries. Arriving units rushed her to Community Regional Medical Center, where she later died. She was a 17-year-old high school student from Fresno. She was a senior at W.E.B. DuBois Public Charter School, according to the Fresno County Coroner’s Office.
 
Police arrested Mendoza and booked him into Fresno County Jail for felony DUI and gross vehicular.
 
An investigation is still ongoing.
