Willits Man Killed, Samuel Caldwell Arrested after Potter Valley DUI Crash
POTTER VALLEY, CA (December 28, 2022) – Authorities arrested 18-year-old Samuel Caldwell of Potter Valley following a fatal DUI accident on Eel River Road, early Monday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened on December 26, at about 1:15 a.m. For reasons still under investigation, a southbound 2016 Subaru Crosstrek drove across the double yellow lines.
Then, the Subaru collided with a northbound 2001 Chevy Cavalier near Gibson Lane.
Emergency crews pronounced a 28-year-old passenger from Willits dead at the scene. Authorities withheld the identity of the victim, pending notification of next of kin.
As per reports, the driver of the Chevy, identified as 19-year-old Joseph Stanley, and a passenger in the Subaru, 18-year-old Norberto Alvarez, suffered injuries and were transported to Adventist Health Ukiah.
The Subaru driver, later identified as Caldwell, was also transported to the hospital. Officers later arrested him for felony driving under the influence.
