Driver and Passenger Dead in Central Bakersfield Crash on Golden State Highway

 
CENTRAL BAKERSFIELD, CA (April 28, 2021) – Salvador Alvarez Vargas and Wayne Eugene Stedman died in a car accident in Central Bakersfield Saturday evening, April 24.
 
The accident happened around 6:12 p.m. on Golden State Avenue near Q Street. According to the CHP, the victims were in a vehicle that was traveling westbound at approximately 60 to 70 mph. For unknown reasons, the vehicle drifted towards the middle lanes and crashed into the pillar at a high speed.
 
As a result, both men died at the scene, according to the Kern County Sheriff’s Office. Vargas was 49-years-old, while Stedman was 72-years-old. Both were Bakersfield residents.
 
Crews closed the Golden State Avenue between Q and 24th streets for several hours while they worked on the crash scene.
 
The cause of the crash and factors involved remain under investigation.
