Late Afternoon Fiery Accident on Highway 49 in San Andreas Leaves 1 Dead
SAN ANDREAS, CA (May 30, 2022) – Ryan C. Moody died and Rodney L. Patrick suffered serious injuries in a fiery accident on Highway 49 in San Andreas late Saturday afternoon.
The accident happened around 5:12 p.m. on May 28 at Gold Strike Road. According to the CHP, Moody was driving a 2001 Ford Expedition southbound at a high rate of speed when he crossed into the opposite lane. He then lost control of the vehicle and collided head-on with a 2014 Ram 1500 traveling in the northbound lane.
The impact caused the Ford to burst into flames, killing Moody. He was 32 years old from Jackson.
The fire spread to the pickup truck and Patrick was trapped inside. Fast-acting witnesses who stopped pulled Patrick from the vehicle as flames engulfed its passenger compartment.
An air ambulance took Patrick, a 57-year-old San Andreas resident, to UC Davis Medical Center for treatment of major injuries.
It is unknown if drugs or alcohol was a factor. The California Highway Patrol is still investigating the accident.
We extend our condolences to the family and friends of Ryan Moody. We also wish Rodney Patrick a fast recovery.
