Fiery Accident on Wells Road Involving Big Rig Leaves Two People Dead

 
VENTURA, CA (October 30, 2021) – Ruben F. Hernandez and his passenger both died in a fiery accident in Ventura on Friday evening.
 
The accident happened just before 10:00 p.m. on October 29 on Wells Road where it crosses over Highway 126 in the Saticoy area. Hernandez, 33, was driving a 2003 Mitsubishi Montero SUV southbound on Wells Road, approaching Henderson Road.
 
A 2017 Freightliner, driven by a 64-year-old Fillmore man, had exited from the eastbound Highway 126. The big rig driver, who also wore a seat belt, had been turning left onto northbound Wells.
 
As the Freightliner was completing its left turn, the Mitsubishi hit the left rear of the big rig’s trailer. The Mitsubishi then caught fire from the impact. The SUV was stuck under the trailer.
 
As a result, both Hernandez and his 22-year-old male passenger died at the scene. Both were Oxnard residents and were wearing their seat belts.
 
The driver of the big rig was not injured.
 
Ventura City firefighters, Ventura Police Department officers and American Medical Response ambulance crews also responded.
 
This fatal accident remains under investigation. Officers asked anyone with information to call Officer Steve Lutzke at 805-662-2640.
