Homeless Man in Wheelchair Dies after Struck by Trolley in Barrio Logan

 
BARRIO LOGAN, CA (March 31, 2023) – Roy Mattingly was hit and killed by a trolley in Barrio Logan Friday evening on March 24.
 
The fatal crash happened around 7:30 p.m. near the intersection of Harbor Drive and Schley Street. According to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office, Mattingly was crossing a set of light-rail tracks in a motorized wheelchair when an eastbound MTS trolley struck him.
 
Paramedics immediately responded and tried to revive Mattingly, but he died at the scene.
 
Mattingly was 67 years old and was homeless.
 
An investigation into this fatality is underway.
