Roxanne Fitzsimmons Injured, Elderly Woman Dead in Head-On Accident on Highway 49 near La Barr Meadows Road

 
GRASS VALLEY, CA (January 19, 2023) — 70-year-old Roxanne Fitzsimmons of Grass Valley was injured in a crash that also killed an 83-year-old.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the head-on accident took place on Highway 49 near La Barr Meadows Road just after 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday, January 17.
 
Investigators stated that the 83-year-old Fair Oaks woman drove southbound in the left turn lane. At the same time, Fitzsimmons approached in the number 1 lane. Both vehicles crashed near the intersection.
 
According to the CHP, the impact of the crash pinned the Fair Oaks woman in her vehicle. She died at the scene. Her identity was not immediately released pending notification of loved ones.
 
Fitzsimmons sustained minor injuries. Paramedics rushed her to the hospital.
 
Drugs and alcohol did not play a role in the incident.
 
The CHP Grass Valley division blocked all lanes of the highway for around two hours.
 
Officials continue to investigate the crash.
