Caltrans Worker Roseann Guzman Killed by Vehicle on 5 Freeway near Sutterville Road

 
SACRAMENTO, CA (September 9, 2022) — Roseann Mary Guzman was hit and killed by a car on the 5 Freeway near Sutterville Road on Wednesday.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal accident occurred on the northbound 5 Freeway around 6:30 p.m. Reports indicate it happened around the Land Park neighborhood and involved two workers subcontracted by Caltrans.
 
As 34-year-old Guzman, of Wheatland, and a 54-year-old Sacramento man were outside their truck setting up cones and a sign to mark night work at the Sutterville Road off-ramp. For unknown reasons, a 30-year-old man from Washington state driving a Toyota Sienna veered across three or four lanes of traffic and into the right shoulder, striking the truck and the workers.
 
Shortly after, paramedics responded to the scene and found Guzman with fatal injuries.
 
The second worker with major injuries. Paramedics brought the surviving patient to a hospital for immediate care.
 
Following the crash, the driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with police investigators, who do not suspect impairment to have caused the crash. However, an ongoing investigation should confirm what led to the accident.
