Rollover Crash on 40 Freeway in Newberry Springs Kills One and Critically Injures Another

 
NEWBERRY SPRINGS, CA (November 30, 2022) – Ronald Matson was killed in a rollover accident in Newberry Springs Sunday afternoon on November 27.
 
The accident happened around 2:05 p.m., just east of Fort Cady Road. The location was approximately a mile after Desert Oasis Rest Area Alvord. According to the California Highway Patrol, a black Nissan SUV was traveling westbound on the freeway when it lost control for unknown reasons. It then veered to the center divider, rolled over multiple times and landed back on its wheels.
 
First responders found two people trapped in the wreckage.
 
Matson, a 60-year-old Winchester resident, died at the scene. It is unknown if he was the driver of the car or a passenger.
 
Another person was airlifted to Loma Linda University Medical Center in critical condition.
 
The cause of the crash and factors involved remain under investigation.
