Authorities Identify Driver Killed in Orinda Crash on Highway 24

 
ORINDA, CA (March 14, 2021) – Authorities identified the man who died in a car accident Thursday morning in Orinda.
 
The accident happened around 5:00 a.m., March 11, on Highway 24 at Wilder Road off-ramp, according to the California Highway Patrol.
 
Rodrigo Garcia-Onofre, a 60-year-old Brentwood resident, was driving a red Ford Ranger westbound on Highway 24. For unknown reasons, he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a metal light pole. The impact crushed the pickup truck’s roof.
 
As a result, Garcia-Onofre sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene.
 
No one else was injured in the crash.
 
The CHP closed the Wilder Road exit until about 6:50 a.m. while it investigated. It is unknown if speed, drugs or alcohol played a factor in the accident.
