Rider Dead in Motorcycle Crash on 580 Freeway [Oakland, CA]

One Fatally Injured on 580 Freeway near Lake Park Avenue

 
OAKLAND, CA (July 6, 2022) — One person suffered fatal injuries in a motorcycle crash on 580 Freeway on Monday, July 4.
 
According to California Highway Patrol Officer David Aria, the crash happened shortly after 1:00 a.m. on 580 Freeway near Lake Park Avenue over-crossing.
 
Arias said a Dodge pickup moved east on the freeway. Then it came upon the motorcycle that had stopped in the second lane without its lights on.
 
The Dodge traveled at freeway speeds and could not avoid striking the motorcycle. The force of the collision ejected the motorcyclist into lanes of traffic, where they were hit by an SUV.
 
Reports said the motorcycle rider succumbed to sustained injuries and died. Officials have not released the motorcyclist’s name, age, or city of residence.
 
The drivers of both the Dodge and the SUV remained at the scene and cooperated with the CHP officers. Authorities determined neither were under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
 
Officials closed all eastbound lanes for around 1.5 hours after the collision.
