Richard Smith Dies after Struck by Hit-and-Run Driver in Costa Mesa
COSTA MESA, CA (January 24, 2022) – Richard Smith was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Costa Mesa, late Thursday evening.
The fatal crash happened around 11:30 p.m. on January 20, at Newport Boulevard and Industrial Way. According to the Costa Mesa Police Department, Smith was crossing the intersection in his wheelchair when an SUV struck him.
As a result, Smith suffered significant injuries and later died at the hospital. He was a 50-year-old Newport Beach resident.
Police were looking for a 2009-2010 black Toyota Highlander that they believe has front-end damage.
