Long Beach Hit-and-Run Sends Seven People to Hospital, Richard Irigoyen Charged

 
LONG BEACH, CA (November 17, 2021) – Criminal charges were filed against a man who drove onto a sidewalk, hitting and injuring seven people in Long Beach on Sunday, October 31.
 
Officers were initially dispatched at 2:43 a.m. to the 1300 block of Orange Avenue, near Anaheim Street. The Long Beach Police Department determined the incident to be an assault with a deadly weapon and domestic violence incident involving a man and a woman.
 
27-year-old Long Beach resident Richard Dalton Irigoyen allegedly had argued with a woman who was among those hit on the sidewalk, according to LBPD public information officer.
 
Five adults and one minor stood on the sidewalk at the tail end of a Halloween party. However, the vehicle struck them. As a result, paramedics rush them to hospitals where they are listed in stable condition. After that, police reported a seventh victim.
 
Irigoyen allegedly drove away northbound on Orange Avenue. However, police arrested Irigoyen that afternoon in Compton.
 
Officials transported Irigoyen to a hospital for injuries unrelated to his arrest. After that, police took him to the Long Beach City Jail. Irigoyen pleaded not guilty to one felony count of attempted murder and seven felony counts of assault with a deadly weapon – an automobile.
 
He remains jailed in lieu of $1.18 million bail, and is due back in a Long Beach courtroom December 10.
