Hector Loaeza Detained, Teen Ricardo Serrano Dies after Hit-and-Run Bicycle Accident in Victorville

 
VICTORVILLE, CA (December 14, 2021) — Hector Castro Loaeza faces charges in a fatal hit-and-run bicycle crash on 5th Street and C Street on Monday, December 6.
 
According to the Victorville sheriff’s station, the fatal accident occurred at 2:01 p.m. The police responded to a vehicle versus bicycle traffic collision at the intersection of 5th Street and C Street.
 
Deputies learned 15-year-old bicyclist Ricardo Martinez Serrano of Victorville traveled west across C Street. At the same time, he was struck by Loaeza’s vehicle traveling south on 5th Street.
 
Paramedics transported the teenager to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Despite life-saving measures, the teen died at 3:19 p.m.
 
Authorities discovered that the driver of the vehicle, later identified as Loaeza, had fled the scene after the collision. Loaeza was located that night and arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence causing death, hit and run resulting in death, and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
 
29-year-old Loaeza of Victorville remains at the High Desert Detention Center in Adelanto with bail set at $150,000, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s booking records show.
