33-Year-Old Raul Lopez Jr. Dies after Struck by Hit-and-Run in Richmond

 
RICHMOND, CA (March 31, 2022) – Raul Lopez Jr. was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Richmond on Monday, March 21.
 
The fatal crash happened around 10:10 p.m. at South 8th Street and Hoffman Boulevard. According to the Richmond Police Department, a driver of a vehicle struck Lopez at the intersection.
 
After hitting the victim, the driver fled the scene.
 
When officers arrived, they found Lopez unconscious on the road. They pronounced him dead at the scene.
 
Lopez was 33-year-old Richmond resident, police said.
 
Police were unable to locate any witnesses or involved parties. But in the course of the investigation, they came upon new evidence from surveillance videos that led them to conclude that the victim was intentionally struck.
 
Police said the video does not capture the victim getting struck, but it showed the suspect’s white van traveling in the eastbound direction.
 
On Thursday, police located the vehicle driven by the suspect, abandoned on the other side of town. They described it as a 1990’s Dodge van.
