Homeless Men Killed in East Village DUI Crash Identified

 
SAN DIEGO, CA (March 21, 2021) – Authorities Thursday publicly identified the second and third of three homeless men killed in a DUI accident this week on an East Village thoroughfare.
 
The accident happened shortly after 9:00 a.m. Monday, March 15, in the 1500 block of B Street. The Volvo jumped a curb, plowed into a sidewalk squatters’ encampment and struck nine transients.
 
Randy Ferris, 65, and Walter Jones, 61, were among those victims. Both died at the scene near San Diego City College, along with 40-year-old Rodney Diffendal, whose name was released Wednesday.
 
Paramedics took five other victims to hospitals for treatment of injuries varying from severe to moderately serious. Another homeless person sustained minor injuries.
 
Police arrested the driver, 71-year-old Craig Martin Voss of San Diego, on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. Police believed he was under the influence of a drug of some kind when he lost control of his car.
