High-Speed Chase on 5 Freeway in San Ysidro Leads to Crash Involving Police Officers, Driver Arrested

 
SAN YSIDRO, CA (September 16, 2024) – A driver was arrested after leading police on a high-speed chase on 5 Freeway in San Ysidro late Friday evening on September 13.
 
The incident occurred around 10:49 p.m. when a CHP unit spotted a white BMW lose control and stop in the several traffic lanes on northbound 5 Freeway, just south of 905 Freeway.
 
A San Diego Police Department officer attempted to pull over the BMW, but the driver took off at a high rate of speed.
 
Shortly after, the BMW crashed onto the 905 Freeway. During the chase, the CHP unit and another SDPD vehicle responding to the scene were also involved in a crash.
 
Paramedics took all involved officers to a hospital for treatment of unknown injuries.
 
The driver of the BMW was taken into custody.

Further investigation is underway. The CHP San Diego Area asked witnesses to contact them at 858-293-6000.
