DUI Wrong-Way Accident on Neuralia Road in California City Injures Police Officer, Stephen Johnson Arrested

 
CALIFORNIA CITY, CA (June 1, 2021) – A police officer sustained injuries and Stephen Johnson was arrested for DUI after a wrong-way accident in California City Tuesday evening, May 25.
 
The accident happened just before 9:00 p.m. on Neuralia Road. According to the California City Police Department, the 27-year-old suspect was driving a vehicle eastbound in the westbound lane. He then collided into a patrol car transporting a suspect to the Kern County Jail.
 
As a result, both Johnson and the police officer suffered injuries. Paramedics arrived soon after and transported both to local hospitals.
 
On Wednesday, the Kern County Sheriff’s Office arrested Johnson. Deputies determined that he was driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs at the time of the crash.
 
At this time, an investigation is ongoing.
