Pedestrian Dies after Struck by Hit-and-Run Vehicle on Normandie Avenue in South LA

 
SOUTH LOS ANGELES, CA (May 23, 2022) – Petra Benitez-Vilchis died in a hit-and-run crash in the Vermont-Slauson area of South Los Angeles on Sunday evening.
 
The fatal crash happened around 9:08 p.m. on May 22, at Normandie Avenue and 59th Street, According to the Los Angeles Police Department’s South Traffic Division, Benitez-Vilchis was crossing Normandie Avenue in a marked crosswalk when a northbound vehicle struck her.
 
After striking her, the vehicle continued northbound without stopping.
 
Officers arrived and found Benitez-Vilchis suffering from fatal injuries. They pronounced her dead at the scene.
 
No other information available at this time. This fatality remains under investigation.
