Peter Binz Dies, Jonathan Petty Detained in Fatal DUI Bike Crash on Herndon Avenue near Highway 168
CLOVIS, CA (June 2, 2023) — Peter Binz died in a DUI bicycle accident on Herndon Avenue near Highway 168.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the bicycle crash happened around 7:00 p.m. Wednesday. For DUI reasons, Jonathan Petty allowed his westbound vehicle to veer out of control and hit 33-year-old Peter Binz on his bicycle.
Upon impact, Binz was ejected from his westbound bike and suffered fatal injuries. Petty, however, failed to help the gravely injured bicyclist. Instead, he drove straight to his house.
A family member reportedly contacted 911 to report the crash and Petty’s whereabouts. That evening, officers booked the 36-year-old into Fresno County jail after he received care at Community Regional Medical Center.
Petty faces multiple charges and has a previous DUI conviction.
