Virgil McLaughlin Jr. Dead, Jerome Pollara Involved in Hoopa Pedestrian Accident

 
HOOPA, CA (May 20, 2021) — A Hoopa man was struck and killed by a vehicle on Sunday, according to the California Highway Patrol.
 
At around 7:45 p.m., CHP received a call of a vehicle versus pedestrian accident on Tish Tang Road near Airport Road in Hoopa.
 
Based on preliminary investigation, officials said it appears the accident happened when 29-year-old Virgil McLaughlin Jr. of Hoopa was walking in an unknown direction on Tish Tang Road. However, he was struck by a southbound 2019 Nissan Altima being driven by 26-year-old Jerome Pollara of Hoopa.
 
Emergency medical personnel arrived on scene and attempted to render aid to McLaughlin. However, due to the severity of his injuries, McLaughlin died at the scene of the accident.
 
Impairment is not considered to be a factor in the driving of the vehicle and impairment of McLaughlin is unknown at this time, pending toxicology results by the Humboldt County Coroner’s Office.
 
CHP said they are continuing to investigate this crash. As a result, they are asking anyone with information to contact the Humboldt Area CHP office at 707-822-5981.
