Motorcyclist James Jones Dies in Crash on Highway 74 in Lake Elsinore
LAKE ELSINORE, CA (May 6, 2022) — One person died in a motorcycle accident on Highway 74 – Ortega Highway – near Grand Avenue on Saturday.
The Riverside County coroner’s office identified the victim as 56-year-old James Jones of Temecula.
According to the Riverside County Fire Department, the crash occurred around 6:45 p.m. For unknown reasons, Jones was riding his 2021 BMW K1600 GTL motorcycle at an undetermined speed on eastbound Highway 74.
Jones allowed his motorcycle to drift off to the right of the eastbound traffic lane. As a result, the motorcycle struck an embankment, throwing Jones from the motorcycle and into westbound traffic lanes.
Jones had already succumbed to his injuries, according to police.
It is unknown if any other vehicles were involved in the crash.
At this time, authorities have not confirmed the ultimate cause of the crash. However, if anyone has more information surrounding the circumstances of this accident, please call the California Highway Patrol.
