Person Dies in Motorcycle Crash on Highway 4 in Murphys

 
MURPHYS, CA (March 8, 2022) — One person died in a motorcycle accident on Highway 4 near Vallecito on Sunday evening.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the motorcycle accident stemmed from a police chase around 6:25 p.m. When an officer saw a motorcyclist running through a stop sign, the officer tried to make a traffic stop. However, the motorcyclist sped off and a high-speed pursuit occurred on Highway 4 into Murphys.
 
At some point during the chase, the motorcyclist negotiated a curve on a road but crossed the double yellow lines. Subsequently, the motorcyclist veered into the eastbound lane of the highway and crashed head-on into a car.
 
Due to the impact, the motorcyclist was ejected onto the shoulder of Highway 4.
 
Shortly after, paramedics responded and tried rendering aid. However, efforts fell short, and the motorcyclist died shortly after.
 
At this time, authorities have not confirmed if alcohol or drugs played a factor. However, an ongoing investigation into this crash should confirm the outstanding details.
