Grapevine Crash on 5 Freeway Causes Major Injuries

 
GRAPEVINE, CA (August 17, 2021) — One person sustained injuries in an accident on 5 Freeway near Grapevine Road Sunday afternoon.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, reports about the incident came in at about 3:15 p.m. Officers, firefighters, and medical personnel immediately rushed to the scene. Upon arriving, a witness told them that a car went through the fencing at the end of the ramp. Subsequently, the vehicle reportedly crashed into the side of the mountain.
 
At least one person needed rescuing from the mangled vehicle. Officials called in a medical helicopter to fly that person to a hospital with major injuries.
 
The northbound lanes of the 5 Freeway remained closed while the medical flight crew attended to and transported the injured party. At about 4:10 p.m., the northbound lanes and Grapevine Road reopened.
 
Meanwhile, the authorities have not released further information about the crash which remains under investigation.
