Rollover Accident on Freedom Boulevard Kills Stephanie Bell, Betty Allen Injured

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA (March 11, 2021) – A pedestrian died in a rollover accident on Freedom Boulevard near Day Valley Road Tuesday afternoon, March 9.

Around 2:00 p.m., a 55-year-old Aromas woman drove a 2006 Volvo XC70 Cross Country eastbound on Freedom Boulevard. For unknown reasons, she drifted off the right shoulder and struck 25-year-old Stephanie Bell. After that, the Volvo careened off the pavement and rolled into the culvert, where it landed on its roof.

Bell suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.

Meanwhile, a female passenger in the Volvo, 82-year-old Betty Allen of Aptos, sustained moderate injuries. As a result, police airlifted Allen to a trauma center at Natividad Medical Center in Salinas.

The Volvo driver did not suffer any injuries.

Officials did not rule out drugs or alcohol as contributing factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.

Watsonville Fire, Central Fire and American Medical Response joined Cal Fire in handling the accident.

We would like to express our deepest condolences to the friends and family of Stephanie Bell.
