DUI Hit-and-Run Crash on Harbor Boulevard in Fullerton Kills Pedestrian, Katya Garcia-Ayala Arrested
FULLERTON, CA (July 12, 2021) – A pedestrian died and police arrested Katya Gladys Garcia-Ayala after a DUI hit-and-run on Harbor Boulevard early Thursday, July 8.
The fatal incident happened around 3:30 a.m. at Orangethorpe Avenue. According to the Fullerton Police Department, a white Ford sedan struck the male pedestrian at the intersection and drove away.
The victim, whose identity was not immediately available, died at the scene.
Around 4:12 a.m., police officers located the sedan with major damage about a block away from the crash scene, in the parking lot of Burlington Coat Factory store. They also found Garcia-Ayala, a 24-year-old Tustin resident. After they questioned her, they arrested her for felony hit and run and driving under the influence.
Crews closed both sides of Orangethorpe Avenue shortly after the crash. They reopened the westbound lanes later in the morning.
An investigation into this fatal crash is ongoing.
