Pedestrian Dies after Struck by DUI Driver on 5 Freeway in Old Town
OLD TOWN, CA (September 12, 2024) – A pedestrian was killed in a DUI crash on 5 Freeway in the Old Town area of San Diego early Wednesday morning on September 11.
The fatal crash happened around 12:30 a.m. near Old Town Avenue. According to the California Highway Patrol, a white Volkswagen struck the pedestrian who was walking southbound on the freeway.
When officers arrived, they found the victim in the middle of the roadway with major injuries. They also located the involved Volkswagen a short distance away with its windshield caved in.
The pedestrian, whose identity was not immediately available, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities arrested the driver of the Volkswagen, a 36-year-old San Diego man, on suspicion of driving under the influence.
