Police Arrest Cameron Curtis for DUI after Fatally Striking Pedestrian in Palm Desert
PALM DESERT, CA (March 6, 2023) – A pedestrian was killed in a DUI crash near Calliandra Street and Alamo Drive in Palm Desert Saturday night.
The fatal crash happened around 6:06 p.m. on March 4. According to the the Palm Desert Sheriff’s Station, 31-year-old Cameron Curtis of Palm Desert was driving a gray Nissan Frontier eastbound on Calliandra Street when he struck the female pedestrian.
The woman suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. The Riverside County Coroner’s Office will release her identity once family members are notified.
Police arrested Curtis and booked him into the John Benoit Detention Center pending murder charges. Intoxication appears to have played a role in the crash.
Curtis was the quarterbacks and running backs coach for the Palm Desert High School varsity football team in the 2022 season. An Instagram profile for him also lists him as a Palm Desert High School English teacher.
Further investigation is underway.
