UPDATE: Pedestrian Emily Castaneda Killed by Hit-and-Run Driver Katrina Hernandez on Cottonwood Avenue [Hesperia, CA]

Hesperia Hit-and-Run on Cottonwood Avenue, Emily Castaneda Identified

 
HESPERIA, CA (June 20, 2022) – Police arrested a woman after a hit-and-run that left one person dead and another in critical condition early Sunday on June 12.
 
Police identified the deceased victim as 29-year-old Emily Castaneda of Hesperia.
 
The fatal crash happened around 4:15 a.m. on Cottonwood Avenue just north of Sycamore Street. According to the Hesperia Sheriff’s Station, Castaneda had fallen onto the roadway and a 32-year-old man attempted to assist her when they were both struck by the suspect vehicle.
 
Castaneda died at the scene.
 
The male pedestrian remains in critical condition. However, police did not release his identity.
 
Police arrested the suspect, identified as 37-year-old Katrina Hernandez, approximately 80 miles away in her hometown of Stanton, CA on June 16. Investigators followed up on leads and they were able to find Hernandez driving the involved vehicle, described as a red 2019 Chevrolet Trax.
 
Officials arrested Hernandez and booked him at the West Valley Detention Center for VC 20001(a), Hit and Run Causing Injury/Death. She posted bail and was released the following day.
