Pedestrian Killed, Driver Hospitalized in Castaic Road Crash in Castaic

 
CASTAIC, CA (March 6, 2023) — A pedestrian hit by a car died, and the driver suffered major injuries in the accident on Castaic Road near the 5 Freeway.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol Newhall Area Office, the fatal pedestrian accident happened around 9:00 p.m. Thursday. For unknown reasons, a 65-year-old Bakersfield resident decided to cross the southbound lanes of Castaic Road. However, as the pedestrian entered the northbound lanes, the individual walked directly into the path of an oncoming 2017 Audi A4, traveling at an unknown speed.
 
The pedestrian smashed through the windshield but was ejected back on the road when the vehicle stopped. Shortly after, two separate ambulances arrived and took the Bakersfield resident and the 60-year-old Tujunga resident driving the Audi to Henry Mayo Newhall hospital with major injuries. However, by 9:46 p.m., the pedestrian perished at the hospital.
 
At this time, authorities have ruled out impairment as a possible explanation for the crash. But if anyone has more news, please call the CHP Newhall office.
