Man Killed, Patricia Murphy Arrested after Suspected DUI Crash on Highway 20 in Lucerne

 
LUCERNE, CA (January 21, 2022) – A 30-year-old man was killed in a car accident on Highway 20, late Sunday evening.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened on January 16 at about 11:52 p.m. A westbound 2012 Volkswagen reportedly made an unsafe turn. Then, the vehicle slammed into a parked Ram 5500 pickup truck near Lake Street.
 
Emergency crews pronounced a passenger in the Volkswagen dead at the scene. Authorities withheld the identity of the victim, pending notification of next of kin.
 
Meanwhile, responders transported the driver, later identified as 31-year-old Patricia Martha Murphy, to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
 
Authorities later arrested Murphy on suspicion of driving under the influence and causing the death of her passenger.
 
CHP continues to investigate the fatal accident.
