Passenger Dies, Driver Flees after Crash with Trash Truck on West Vista Way

 
VISTA, CA (November 11, 2021) – A passenger died in a two-vehicle hit-and-run crash on West Vista Way Wednesday afternoon.
 
The fatal crash happened around 4:00 p.m. on November 10, near Grapevine Road, in front of a popular Mexican market and the Boomers amusement park. According to sheriff’s officials, a silver Mazda 6 and an EDCO trash truck collided for unknown reasons. The Mazda ended up wedged into the back of the truck.
 
After the crash, the driver of the Mazda abandoned the car, leaving the male passenger with fatal injuries.
 
Responding paramedics pronounced the unidentified passenger dead at the scene.
 
At this time, the suspect remains at large. Investigators identified the car’s registered owner and attempted to locate that person at his or her residence, but unsuccessful.
 
Anyone with information about the crash or the driver who fled was urged to call San Diego County Crime Stoppers’ anonymous tip line at (888) 580-8477. Tipsters may be eligible for a reward up to $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest in the case.
