Car Accident on 5 Freeway near Sims Road Kills Passenger, Gary Peretti Injured

 
MOUNT SHASTA, CA (May 25, 2021) – A passenger died and Gary Peretti was injured in a car accident in Mount Shasta Monday morning, May 24.
 
The accident happened around 9:43 a.m. along 5 Freeway, just south of Sims Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, a 2014 Honda was traveling southbound when it drifted off the freeway into a rock embankment. It continued south before crashing into a concrete center divider wall.
 
As a result, the passenger in the car suffered major injuries and died at Mercy Medical Center Mt. Shasta. Authorities only described her a 94-year-old Alamo woman.
 
Peretti, a 72-year-old resident of Corvallis, Oregon, suffered moderate injuries. He was the one driving the car.
 
CHP said drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the crash. Further investigation is underway.
