Passenger Dies in Lodi DUI Accident on 5 Freeway

 
LODI, CA (August 23, 2021) — A passenger died in a DUI crash on the 5 Freeway near Turner Road Sunday morning.
 
According to officials, the fatal accident happened around 2:07 a.m. For DUI-related reasons, a northbound driver in a Toyota traveling at a high rate of speed slammed into the back of a Lexus. Due to the impact, the Lexus struck a guardrail in the southbound median and ejected a passenger onto the road.
 
Soon after, authorities responded and pronounced the passenger of the Lexus deceased at the scene. Meanwhile, paramedics administered aid to its driver who suffered moderate injuries.
 
Per statements, the driver of the Toyota left the scene but returned later to turn himself in. It was then when officers arrested him for DUI.
