17-Year-Old Girl Dies after Speeding Car Crashes into Pond on Omo Ranch Road in Somerset, Teen Driver Arrested for DUI

 
SOMERSET, CA (April 14, 2022) – A passenger was killed in a DUI accident on Omo Ranch Road in Somerset, late Monday afternoon.
 
The fatal accident happened shortly after 5:00 p.m. on April 11 just east of Mt. Aukum Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, two 17-year-old girls from Somerset were in a 1999 Mercury Grand Marquis.
 
The car was traveling westbound at a high rate of speed when it lost control. It then struck several trees and overturned upside down into a pond.
 
The teen driver was able to free herself from the car, but was unable to assist her passenger. A passerby in the area was able to help the passenger and get her out of the water.
 
Responding paramedics then rushed both teens to hospitals, where the passenger later died.
 
The driver only had minor injuries. Police arrested her that same day on suspicion of driving under the influence.
 
An investigation into this fatal crash is underway.
