Bakersfield Car Accident Kills Passenger Julia Aquino, Seriously Injures Driver

 
BAKERSFIELD, CA (January 13, 2022) – A passenger died in a car accident at Muller Road and South Edison Road in Bakersfield on Tuesday, January 4.
 
Police identified the victim as 48-year-old Julia Aquino of Bakersfield.
 
The accident happened around 12:58 p.m. at the intersection, just east of Weedpatch Highway. According to the California Highway Patrol, a woman driving a Ford Escape drove westbound on Muller Road approaching South Edison Road.
 
The woman made a complete stop at the stop sign. After that, she entered the intersection directly in the path of a heavy-duty tow truck heading southbound at 55 miles per hour, according to CHP.
 
CHP said Aquino sitting in the rear passenger seat of the Ford was not restrained. Aquino suffered fatal injuries from the crash and died at the scene.
 
The driver of the Ford Escape was sent to the hospital with major injuries.
 
Jamie Gallegos, the 26-year-old driver of the tow-truck, did not sustain injuries.
 
At this time, the crash remains under investigation.
