FRESNO COUNTY, CA (June 30, 2021) – One person suffered serious injuries in a pedestrian accident on Ninos Drive on June 24.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened near Dwight Murphy Field shortly before 5:30 PM.
 
Based on reports, the man appeared to have been drinking prior to the accident. Crews said he may have passed out in the tracks. At that time, a northbound Amtrak Pacific Starliner train had been traveling about 40 mph. The train engineer saw the man in his path, hit the brakes and sounded the horn. Subsequently, the victim jumped off the tracks. However, the train struck him.
 
As a result, the man suffered moderate injuries. An AMR ambulance took him to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, but details on his condition were not available.
 
This pedestrian accident on Ninos Drive is still under investigation by the Santa Barbara Police Department. At this point, no other details are available.
